I watched Dazed and Confused a couple of weekends ago with George. It was a good weekend to watch it - it was the last week of school, and the movie is set on the last day of school. And set in the 70’s. I really enjoy that movie and could watch it over and over.

I confuse myself at times. I was young in the 70’s. Pre-teen years, even. But I have such fond memories of that time. I’ve talked about it before - years before teenage angst then adult hood take over your life. Memories of being a kids, playing outside until dark, riding your bike, chasing the ice cream man when you heard the truck, going to your grandma’s and spending days at a time. Just having fun and not worrying so much about…stuff.

I still love listening to disco, I still adore the Bee Gees and ABBA. I love watching That 70’s Show. I love WKRP in Cincinnati. I loved watching Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman, Kaptain Kool & the Kongs…ahh the 70’s.

We sure could have used Schoolhouse Rock! the last week of school. My son was having a lot of problems with nouns, pronouns, adjectives before his English final. I had a hard time studying because all those songs kept going thru my head.

And with that in mind for your listening pleasure, you children of the 70’s:
Three is a Magic Number
Unpack Your Adjectives (Blossom Dearie)

music stuff.

As you all know (all 3 of my readers, lol), I have an XM Radio. Twice in the past week, I have heard Rod Stewart singing Fooled Around and Fell in Love.

Yes. Seriously. Almost as awful as his version of (I shudder thinking of it) Baby It’s Cold Outside that XM played at Christmas time. He did that with Dolly Parton. No shit. (shuddering)

I found the album on Amazon, it’s called Rod Stewart - Still the Same, Great Rock Classics of Our Time. Click the link and go check out the samples…it is really atrocious. As if messing up a classic from the 70’s isn’t enough, he butchers another of my favorite songs of all time (I’ll Stand By You by The Pretenders). Someone. Must. Stop. Him.

Better yet, don’t listen! Click here to listen to the original. OR, if you want to hear a GOOD remake of this classic, download Henry Lee Summer’s version.

I’ve also been getting into Blossom Dearie. She is a great jazz singer and it appears most of her work came out in the 60’s. I found a profile for her on myspace, and had I’m Hip as my profile song for a week or so before myspace took it upon themselves to delete it from that profile. She has such a unique voice and you will probably remember her from Schoolhouse Rock (Unpack Your Adjectives and Figure Eight).

Well…I know, not blogging much lately. Life has been complicated of late. But why don’t I do something simple for my friends? Here are some music downloads I’ve found - I haven’t checked them all so I can’t vouch if they are “full” or “accurate” but it never hurts to just see:

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony

Ultravox - Dancing With Tears in My Eyes

Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself

Morningwood - Nth Degree

Pink - Just Like a Pill

You should be dancing.

tax refund time…

so you know what this means - something in my house has torn up (as opposed to something on my car)! Never fails, it seems that fate knows when I have extra money.

Just a little plumbing problem…yea, it cost me more than I wanted to spend but thank goodness I had it. It appears, however that I am going to need a new water heater soon. And we’re talking about $300 or so. Let’s hope that something happens that enables me to come up with that kind of extra money.

Let’s see, in other news…I have been catching up on the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris in my reading. I finished Dead To the World last. I’m not really sure how many more I like to be caught up, guess I need to find out. I did read the first book in another one of her series, the Lily Bard one. I wasn’t impressed. I don’t know why … it just seemed to take about 1/2 the book to pick up speed.
