We watched one movie from the list, and another one not on the list … but I’m sure had the book been published after it was made, it would definitely be on the list.
We will start with Slap Shot (on the list). This movie was from the 70’s, starred Paul Newman, and I recall it with fondness. My daughter and I sat down to watch it, edited on television of course, and I told her to get ready because it was hilarious. I probably haven’t seen it since I was her age, (muffle) years ago. Imagine my surprise (and dismay) when as it kept going, it just wasn’t as funny as I remembered. I don’t know if it was because it was edited, or as I age what I find funny has changed. I was kind of disappointed. On another note – the girl loved it. And it made me remember how much I loved Maxine Nightingale. ( one of those hearts is for Newman’s eyes)
I got Up from Netflix and had to wait for a 2nd copy as the first one was all scratched. (sigh, the risk you take with them I suppose). I LOVED this movie! I guess it just made me feel a little melancholy and I will admit it – wistful. I wish I had the nerve to go and do some of the things I want to do without fear. I was a little surprised that death was addressed (and not of an animal) in a Disney picture but it was done well. So don’t fight seeing it because the main character is elderly! And don’t think because you don’t have kids you can’t watch it, either. Go rent it or put it first in your queue ASAP.
