I have had such a crappy week (blog on that to come later, sometime this weekend) that I decided to come home and surf, and catch up on the people on my blogroll. Joelle had posted a blog about five movies you can watch over and over again, regardless if they are considered critically acclaimed.

Just five?? Sigh…well, I could probably list ten, but okay…let’s go with my five and why (some movie quotes with profanity maybe included so you are warned):

  • Shaun of the Dead. How could someone NOT like this movie? A funny zombie movie. And my favorite movie line of all time: “No, it’s not. It’s fucking Sunday. And I’ve got to go to fucking work in four fucking hours ‘cos every other fucker in my fucking department is fucking ill! Now can you see why I’m SO FUCKING ANGRY?” C’mon! That is comic genius.

  • Dazed and Confused. I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is about this movie that I like so much. I’ve blogged about it before. Is it my nostalgia for the 70’s? Is is my nostalgia for the music (Fox on the Run!)? For the last day of school? Matthew McConaghey? Or all the actors who were in it at the early stages of their career? I can’t pinpoint it. I saw this movie for the first time about a year ago, which is a travesty! Such a good movie. With another great line: “That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age.”

  • Rent. I figure this is the closest I will come to seeing it on Broadway (though I have tickets to see it at The Orpheum in Memphis). I love the songs, I love the characters. I just love it.

  • Steel Magnolias. I’m from the South. I love the way it passes through the seasons, the years just as life does, and shows how life goes on even after you lose someone. Plus it has some damn funny scenes.

  • Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. I have to agree with Joelle on this one. And the scene stealer? Neil Patrick Harris, believe it or not. How can you not crack up when he says he’s hungry for some burgers…furburgers!! I suppose some would say it is a crude or tasteless movie…but c’mon! “Daddy is not coming on anything.”
  • And I guess some of my alternates would be Tremors, Hitch, The Lake House, and The Mummy Returns. Okay, I have no explanation for Tremors or The Mummy Returns, but I can’t look away when they come on.
